by dorian hargrove, june 24, 2016. a san diego superior court judge has ordered the church of jehovah's witnesses, also known as the watchtower bible and tract society of pennsylvania, to pay $4000 a day for every day that it fails to produce documents requested in a civil lawsuit brought by former parishioner, osbaldo padron, who claims a church elder sexually abused him when he was seven years old.. in a june 23 ruling, expected to be made final today, judge richard strauss admonished the church for willfully ignoring a court order to produce all documents associated with a 1997 body of elders letter that church leaders sent to parishes around the world in a quest to learn about sexual abuse of children by church leaders.. over the course of the past year, the watchtower society and its lawyers have fought hard to keep the letter confidential, claiming that turning over the documents would infringe on the privacy of those mentioned in the letter that were not associated with the case.. in march 2015, the church turned over a heavily redacted version of the letter.
Crazyguy: Unfortunately that only about 1.5 million per year. The watchtower could just ingnore the court for years.
But what if it multiple cases like these occur. Fifty cases throughout the U.S. would add up to $75 million per year. Even ten would take a pound of flesh from them.

jesus taught that we must die unto ourselves, and allow the holy spirit to take up residence within us.
some people get saved by simply inviting jesus into their hearts, to be the lord of their life.
this serves as a countering force within the born-again christian to counterbalance the will of the flesh, which is still unsaved in this life and destined for destruction in imitation of our lord himself.. attempting to live the christian life without having this spirit within you is a waste of time at the minimum, and dangerous on the downside.

Non-rhetorical answer: Religious groups like this are always founded by a charismatic leader who's adept at drawing a crowd of followers. I doubt that a dozen men of lesser imagination could get together and say to each other, "Let's invent a Messiah!" and actually pull it through.
sometimes it's hard to know if our own experience of jws was typical and what features were peculiar to our own area or the individual jws we knew personally.

a few times on the ministry, when we were working wealthy areas with large houses, some brothers and sisters would make the comment that they look forward to taking ownership of one of these big houses after armageddon, when the worldly people have vacated them.
Strange, how they picture Armageddon in their literature with fireballs destroying buildings. What would be left to inherit?

once upon a time i started a thread who is your favorite thinker and got many responses.
however revisiting that thread i noted we were to modest to name ourselves or fellow posters.
i therefore think we are either complete idiots, or modesty aside we should now name names, and restrict our answers to posters on the board.. so who on this board is your favorite thinker and why?.

i have been thinking about this phrase lately "new heavens & new earth".
the new earth piece i guess i can see that one...... (still not really sure about that one) .
but why the need for "new heavens"?
I think the JW response is that the new heavens refers to the actual atmosphere of the earth. It would be new if the pre-flood atmosphere were to return.
